International workshop ‘Protecting and Monitoring the ocean – the Nordics’

This workshop, organised by the Ocean Autonomy Cluster Ocean Autonomy Cluster with the support of partner institutions (i.e. European Investment Bank Group, the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Blue Invest, Innovamare and Copernicus Marine Service) is happening as a satellite event of the Ocean Week 2023’ organised by Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). It will take place on 3rd of May 2023 in Trondheim, Norway. The workshop will showcase the existence of exciting ocean space technology, especially technology that approaches autonomous and remote-controlled operations. 

NTNU’s Ocean Week 

“Ocean Week” is the annual conference hosted by NTNU Oceans with the purpose to lay foundations for ground-breaking interdisciplinary ocean research and for collaboration across sectors to solve the sustainability challenges of the Oceans. 

The focus of Ocean Week 2023 is ‘From seas of data to an ocean of knowledge’. 

‘Protecting and Monitoring the ocean – the Nordics’   

The workshop will present current and future challenges and solutions related to the ocean and the blue economy. It aims to bring together all relevant stakeholders to discuss potential public and private investments in monitoring and protecting the ocean, focusing on the Nordics. 

The main objectives of the workshop are: 

  • Showcasing ocean innovative technologies.  
  • Exploring funding possibilities for the public and the private projects at each stage of the development. 
  • Connecting the key stakeholders to share a common vision. 

Mercator Ocean International (MOi) has been invited to participate in the session ‘Solutions looking for a problem – Research and Technology’ which will take place from 09.15 – 10.00 CET. During this session Tina Silovic (Market development officer, MOi) will give a talk  ‘MOi: Advancing as an Ocean Data Service Provider for the Arctic’. 

Altogether, this event’s tangible benefits are in supporting a shared ecosystem for ocean technology in Europe and stimulating new market opportunities linked to the European Green Deal and Digital Transformation.
