The Ocean Innovation Africa Summit edition 2023 organised by OceanHub Africa has closed its doors to the public. Mercator Ocean has participated at this event focused on entrepreneurship and innovation in the blue economy sectors in Africa, with an emphasis on sustainability and nature-based solutions. <\/h5>\n\n\n

\u00ab\u00a0Data, Exploration and Security\u00a0\u00bb plenary session<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The event organised the \u201cData, Exploration and Security\u201d plenary, moderated by Jaco Stemmet<\/strong> (Fugro), with the participation of Mika Odido<\/strong> (IOC Africa), Juliet Hermes <\/strong>(SEAON), Ronald Tardiff<\/strong> (WEF) and Fabrice Messal<\/strong> (Mercator Ocean International). The discussion focused on the main challenges<\/strong> of data sharing and access; on the need to bridge the gap between science and policy<\/strong> to further ensure fair principles in data sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This panel discussion came after a \u201cPecha Kucha\u201d (i.e., a 20-20 storytelling presentation: 20 visual slides with 20 seconds per slide) delivered by Fabrice Messal. Intitled \u201cImproving ocean knowledge to inform sustainable action<\/em>\u201d, it introduced operational oceanography<\/a><\/strong> and exposed the increasing role it must play in informing sustainable action to support international ocean governance<\/a> and the blue economy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ocean Innovation Africa Summit<\/strong> also featured numerous roundtable sessions, gathering around 10 speakers on selected topics, plus the audience. Mercator Ocean was part of three roundtables:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
