The marine heatwave bulletin provides forecasts and analysis of marine heatwave events across the globe and throughout the year. Used datasets include observations (satellite sea surface temperature maps) and numerical model analyses (assimilating satellite and in situ observations) to derive marine heatwave forecasts for a 10-day period. This week’s forecasts were produced using as a comparison the marine heatwave situation on 27/05/2025.
Global Ocean

Tropical Atlantic
The marine heatwave present in the Caribbean Sea disappears. The marine heat wave south of Cuba decreases, with only a few scattered zones remaining in the moderate category.
The marine heatwave increases in intensity with a stable extent in the Gulf of Mexico.
North Pacific
The marine heatwave in the central part of the basin decreases in extent and generally shifts to the moderate category, with some areas remaining in the strong categories.
A strong to locally extreme marine heatwave persists in the Sea of Okhotsk.
Tropical Pacific
The marine heatwave southeast of China decreases in extent and generally shifts to the moderate category. The marine heatwave in the western tropical Pacific Ocean and the seas of Southeast Asia remains generally stable.
Indian Ocean
The marine heatwave in the Arabian Sea disappears.
The marine heatwave east of Madagascar decreases in extent, with only a few areas remaining in the moderate category.
European Zone

North Atlantic Ocean
The marine heatwave located west and north of the British Isles disappears. The marine heatwave off the west coast of France and Spain decreases in extent but increases locally in intensity, reaching severe and extreme categories.
