Marine heatwave category forecasts for 8 August, 2026 around Europe. Data: GLO12 forecast. Source: Mercator Ocean International.
The marine heatwave in the basin is expanding in both area and intensity, with most areas classified as “strong,” except in the east, where it remains stable.
The marine heatwave off the western coast of Spain is intensifying, with most areas classified as “strong” and some as “severe”. The same marine heatwave is now forming a nearly unbroken continuum with the heatwave extending from the central Atlantic to Cuba.
