The marine heatwave bulletin provides forecasts and analysis of marine heatwave events across the globe and throughout the year. Used datasets include observations (satellite sea surface temperature maps) and numerical model analyses (assimilating satellite and in situ observations) to derive marine heatwave forecasts for a 10-day period. This week’s forecasts were produced using as a comparison the marine heatwave situation on 24/06/2025.
European Zone

North Atlantic Ocean
The marine heatwave off the western coasts of France and Spain is decreasing, with moderate to strong categories. In the North Sea, a marine heatwave of strong category is developing. The extent of the marine heatwave which extended from the east of Florida to the center of the basin is decreasing, while its intensity is increasing with the development of strong and severe categories.
Mediterranean Sea
The marine heatwave west of the basin is increasing in intensity, with the development of strong to severe and locally extreme categories. East of the basin, the extent and the intensity of the marine heatwave are decreasing.
Global ocean

Tropical Atlantic
The marine heatwave in the Gulf of Mexico and South of Cuba is decreasing in extent, but its intensity with strong to sever categories. .
North Pacific
The marine heatwave in the central basin around 30°N increases in intensity with strong to severe and locally extreme categories. In the Japan Sea a marine heatwave is developing with strong category. Off the coast of Canadian the marine heatwave decreases in extent but the strong category extent increases.
Indian Ocean
In the basin center, the strong category extent increases.
