As part of the 12th OceanPredict Science Team Meeting, the OceanPredict AI Task Team will host its first in-person workshop, entitled “Machine Learning for Ocean Prediction: Methods, Applications & Challenges”, on 13–14 April 2026 at the University of Montréal, Canada, in collaboration with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Bringing together experts from the ocean prediction and artificial intelligence communities, the workshop will explore innovative machine learning approaches, hybrid modelling techniques and the challenges of integrating AI into operational ocean forecasting.

Marie Drevillon, Head of Operations and Ocean Monitoring at Mercator Ocean International, plays a key role in this initiative as Co-Chair of the OceanPredict Science Team. Anass El Aouni, Machine Learning Applications Oceanographer at Mercator Ocean International, serves as Co-Chair of the OceanPredict AI Task Team, contributing to the advancement of artificial intelligence for ocean prediction. As a co-organiser of the workshop, Mercator Ocean International supports the coordination of scientific exchanges and the development of AI-driven solutions for ocean prediction within the international OceanPredict framework.
