Mercator Ocean International and the Copernicus Marine Service have launched a new podcast series, Decoding the Ocean, exploring how ocean science and digital innovation transform observations into free, open and reliable ocean intelligence with real-world impact.
Through expert insights and real-world examples, the podcast highlights how ocean data supports science, policy and the blue economy, while helping society better understand the ocean’s role in the Earth system.
Episode 1: Why Ocean Data Matters
The first episode explores the fundamental role of the ocean in regulating climate, supporting biodiversity and sustaining human activities. It shows how ocean observations and modelling help scientists monitor changes and improve our understanding of the ocean system.
At the heart of this effort is the Copernicus Marine Service, implemented by Mercator Ocean International, which provides regular and systematic information on the state of the global ocean and European regional seas.
