Definition
A grant is a direct financial contribution, in the form of a donation, to fund, for a purpose of general interest, either an action carried out by a beneficiary or, on a one-off basis, the operations of a beneficiary.
The grant is paid to a specific beneficiary for the purpose of carrying out an activity or project of general interest, without any direct benefit to Mercator Ocean.
Applicable legislation and eligibility criteria
The Mercator Ocean Grant Regulations apply to the allocation of grants and will be supplemented, where applicable, by the regulations and other relevant documents of the funding agency.
The awarding of a grant to an organization is conditional upon compliance with the rules listed below:
- Transparency: All relevant information necessary to enable potential beneficiaries to obtain accurate and timely information on the actions carried out will be published on the dedicated platforms.
- Equal treatment: No preferential treatment may be granted to any potential beneficiary within the framework of a grant award procedure using European funding.
- Non-profit: Grants are neither intended nor designed to generate profit and must be limited to the amount necessary to balance the project’s budget.
- Non-retroactivity: Mercator Ocean funding cannot be used to finance projects that have already been completed and have therefore proven feasible without Mercator Ocean’s financial support.
- No overlapping grants or double funding: Each beneficiary may receive only one grant per project, and under no circumstances may the same costs be funded from different sources.
