Mercator Ocean Showcases Operational Maritime Applications at EU Space Conference 2026

From 27 to 28 January 2026, Mercator Ocean will be at the heart of the EU Space Conference organized by DG DEFIS in Brussels. Positioned next to the Agora’s suspended Sentinel-6 satellite display, our booth will bring the latest operational maritime applications to the spotlight, demonstrating the tangible impact of Earth observation data on Ocean safety, navigation, and port operations.

Visitors will be invited to discover the European Digital Twin Ocean (EU DTO) through an interactive installation showcasing an AI-driven, science-based digital replica of the Ocean designed to support decision-making. The demonstrations will highlight Europe’s latest advances in ocean monitoring and prediction, with concrete use cases spanning environmental protection, maritime navigation, security-relevant decision-making and European digital sovereignty. Several practical demonstrations will be presented over the two days, with detailed timings and topics shared ahead of the Conference.

A key moment of the programme will take place on Day one, from 10:30 to 11:30, during the session “Digital Ocean: a Space of Sovereignty and Security”. On this occasion, European Commissioners Andrius Kubilius (Defence and Space) and Costas Kadis (Fisheries and Oceans) will visit the EU DTO installation to explore new operational use cases. Mercator Ocean will present flagship applications ranging from turtle tracking to maritime traffic management, navigation and naval operations, followed by a moderated discussion in the Agora.
