Following the Data Assimilation workshop end of 2018, MOI has now organized a virtual meeting that brings together MOI shareholders and interested parties to discuss evolutions and best-practices for Ocean Modeling and Forecasting. The online workshop took place on June 29-30, with more than 75 remote participants. They have discussed innovations, how to improve models and increase prediction skills and discussed also possible future collaborations.
T
he meeting objectives was to i) develop a European strategy for systematic assessment of numerical models for subseasonal to seasonal ocean predictions; ii) Develop a strategy for coupling ocean-atmosphere-hydrology numerical models; iii) Develop a forum for structured and unstructured forecasting models to interact, from the global to the harbor scale; iv) Identify steps to converge on approaches and tools, in close collaboration with other European initiatives.
This collaboration can bring improvements to a wide-range of models including the global Copernicus Marine physical model, regional MOI models, and models specific to the shareholders. There were multiple MOI shareholder representatives at the meeting from: CNRS, Met Office UK, NERSC, Meteo France, Puertos del Estado, IRD, SHOM, Ifremer, and CMCC.
