COPERNICUS MARINE – INNOVATION – ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CORRECTION OF ATMOSPHERIC FORCING FOR THE GLOBAL ANALYSIS AND FORECASTING SYSTEM

The purpose of this consultation is the optimisation and bias correction of atmospheric forcing with artificial intelligence for global ocean forecast and reanalysis. The objectives are as follows:

  • to develop and optimise production chain for the forcing of global systems providing capabilities to produce forcing on different platforms including the European DTO and large diversity of data sources. This concerns wind stress, heat and mass fluxes atmospheric forcing at the ocean/atmosphere interface.
  • to develop bias correction methodology dedicated for the different forcing fields that could be applied to large scale and long-term time series as for the reanalysis as well as for small scale features for near real time analysis or short-term forecast. Methodology based on AI and reference data set including ocean/atmosphere observations and simulations will be developed for an optimal compatibility with the European DTO.
