Held on 9–10 June 2026 as part of the first Digital Ocean Week, the 9th Copernicus Marine General Assembly gathered representatives of European institutions, Member States, scientific organisations and operational partners to review the service’s achievements and discuss its future direction.
Implemented by Mercator Ocean International on behalf of the European Commission, the Copernicus Marine Service provides trusted ocean data and forecasts to support research, public policy, business and society. The Assembly highlighted its continued evolution towards more integrated, accessible and actionable ocean intelligence, supported by advances in digital infrastructure, international cooperation and artificial intelligence.
The General Assembly also looked ahead to the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028–2034. Discussions highlighted the need to sustain and strengthen Europe’s ocean-observation, marine-data and digital-infrastructure capacities, while ensuring that Copernicus Marine can continue to evolve as a key public service within Europe’s integrated Digital Ocean system.
A key moment of the General Assembly was the launch of MyOcean Health, a new public platform designed to make ocean-health information easier to understand and use. Through interactive visualisations, it brings together six key indicators: sea-surface temperature, ocean acidification, marine heatwaves, sea level, and Arctic and Antarctic sea-ice extent.
By making trusted Copernicus Marine information accessible to policymakers, journalists, educators, citizens and the wider ocean community, MyOcean Health helps place current ocean conditions in context and strengthen public understanding of a changing ocean.
